Re: updates

Good question. Thorny answer, depending on WinXP version and Service Pack

level:

2014. I forget the month, but as I recall it is the second half.

I think that the world is going to end on 12/12/12

I read it was April 2009 for Home and April 2014 for Pro. This was at least

a year ago. Think their both the same now, Colin? I know this stuff changes

all the time.

That must be the release date for the OS that supersedes Vista. <eg>

Re: updates

Windows XP Home, Professional, MCE 2005, and Tablet Edition 2005 mainstream

support ends 4/14/2009 and extended support ends 4/8/2014. All XP x86

editions have the same lifecycle dates.

XP x64 is covered by the Lifecycle support policy that says mainstream

support ends two years after the general public availability of the next

equivalent version of Windows (in this case Vista x64) and extended support

five years after the end of mainstream support. The public availablility

date governs and not the date released to manufacturing.

Re: updates

btw, the lifecycle policy for XP does not work the same way for Vista.

There is no extended support period for Vista Home Basic, Vista Home

Premium, or Vista Ultimate. Only Vista Business and Enterprise are

projected to have extended support after the end of mainstream support in

2012. Very thought provoking, eh?

No worries there, Colin. I have to stick with XP. My doctor says my health

issues make switching to Vista prohibitive. <eg>

From your prior post, I searched about regular support vs extended support,

but I found nothing definitive about who has which or how to make sure you

have extended support.

Re: updates

Since MS has announced that SP3 will be the last sp for XP x86, SP3 will be

the service pack level that will be in extended support until 2014.

While service packs have a lifecycle of their own (continued support for

twelve months after being superceded), that of course only applies to a

previous service pack.
