hi,

i have installed xp twice on my system now i can log in new

any way that i can get to the desktop of older installation by using the new

installation of xp. When i search on C drive of the new XP intallation i can

not find older version windows directory or desktop.

The two options you see are because your boot sector was modified. You

most likely over wrote your previous installation.

The entry in the boot options menu is still there. But that may be all.

Why can't you just restore from your file backups?

One very good reason for NOT keeping data on the desktop!

If it had been installed to a different partition, the older version would

have still been there and be bootable into.

No, not anymore you don't. Start, Run, MSCONFIG, BOOT.INI, Check all

boot paths, you will have corrected the issue.

I'm sure we all know the answer. But Colin makes a very important

point very effectively by phrasing it that way.

Anybody who has files that he considers important and does not have

them backed up is playing with fire.

Indeed and it wasn't lost on me. I hope that I was reinforcing the point.

Absolutely. But how many times has that advice appeared in this and other

related newsgroups. Yet, this very issue qualifies as a 'frequently asked

question'.

Re: dual boot xp professional

Did you compare the contents of "both boot paths"? Please post them to

the thread so we may see.
