Install Turbotax--Setup.exe error-Framework error

Recommended Posts

The Facts...

- XP Home SP2

- I am able to load PAST years of Turbotax (TT)

- Repurchased a second new copy of TT with exactly the same results

- When I put the disk in - I'm asked "Would I like to install TT now".

I click yes and the following appears - "Setup.exe has encountered a problem

and needs to close. We are sorry....."

- If I start computer in Safe Mode and run Setup.exe, TT is installled up to

a point where it TRIES to install net.Framework 2.0- Messages appear...

-Framework 2.0 had problem w/ VisualStudio

-Windows installer service couldn't be accessed

Help -I NEED TO DO MY TAXES,

Frank

Re: Install Turbotax--Setup.exe error-Framework error

Uninstall NET using the Control Panel Add/Remove programs. Remove .NET 3.x

first if it is installed (make of note of what version of 3.x you have

installed), then uninstall NET 2.x

Download and install .net 2.0 SP1

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=79BC3B77-E02C-4AD3-AACF-A7633F706BA5&displaylang=en

Then reinstall NET 3.0 if it was installed as mentioned above.

You don't need .NET Framwork 3.0 to install TT, but you do need 2.0 and it's

hotfixes. Just went through this myself.

The only .net i have installed is the framework 1.1.

Should I leave this or remove?

Yes you can leave 1.1 as is.

Download .NET 2.0 from MS website and install it. Install TT after that.

Love to have your car but I have to make do with a 2007 Charger R/T

5.7L HEMI in TorRed with the Road & Track Performance Group. Great

car and it gets 24.6 on the highway!

I no longer own it, but I've been overclocking car engines for a long time,

which got me started in overclocking CPUs.

That old 440 only got 11.0 on trips and 9mpg around town.

What does "overclocking" an engine mean? Can I assume you mean

modern cars with computers running the engine where you can flash

the firmware? First I've heard that term. If you got 9/11 mpg wit

your Six Pack, it was damn good. I had a 1972 Plymouth Gran Fury

with the E-85 440 4-barrel with single exhaust. Blasting up to

the Mackinac Bridge with my girlfriend (now my wife) at 85 mph, I

averaged barely 8, and no better driving to work.

No the old 60s and 1970s.

Taking a stock engine and changing anything and everything that could get me

more power and RPMs.

That meant modifying the carbs or replacing with Fuel Injection for

starters.

The fastest car I had back then would do 180 to 190 mph (a factory fuel

injected 1965 Chevy Malibu SS 327).

You will not find any reference to this model as it was made and shipped to

me by GM on special order.

I also worked independently with Mobil Oil Research to change the Dodge

Charger from 3 two barrels

to a specially developed computerized 10 injector setup before the car was

stolen.

As for the 9Mpg ... the center two barrel was leaned out and the other two

carbs where set to kick in mechanically.

Now, THIS makes sense to me, JS! I was too busy trying to earn a

buck as a boy engineer at Chrysler circa 1969-1974 with a stint

in the Army just to make things interesting.

Wow! I assume this was something even more "secret" than the COPO

cars?

> I also worked independently with Mobil Oil Research to change

Hope the thief choked on those 10 injectors! But, why 10 and not

just 8?

> As for the 9Mpg ... the center two barrel was leaned out and

> the other two carbs where set to kick in mechanically.

Yeah, lots of guys replaced the vacuum "secondaries" with

mechanical linkage although for street use, the stock setup with

a TorqueFlite was pretty hard to beat on the Woodward Avenue

Grand Prix in those days.

What axle did you run? Most of my friends with muscle cars of all

makes went with mild rations like 3.23 and 3.31 because they

needed to drive I-75 to work every day. Some went to 3.55 which

helped some but the guys that tried 3.90/4.11 found that unless

they put on some serious rubber, it was all wasted in blue smoke.

In fact, a co-worker had a 4-speed 440 Six Barrel 'Cuda with

4.11s that could ET as quick starting in 2nd gear as 1st, albeit

a lower trap speed. His biggest problem, though was hanging a

hard 1-2 shift and the pistol grip handle literally came off in

his hand! Needless to say, a tow home was in order.

Been great talking with you.

Re: Install Turbotax--Setup.exe error-Framework error

THANK YOU very much! got it to load AND work! I'll be able to send all my

money to the feds now!

But...there is a minor problem as yet.

I still had to install TT by using Safe Mode! When I put the CD in and let

it do Autostart in normal mode the error came back "Setup.exe has encountered

a problem and needs to close. We are sorry....."

Any thoughts???

Thanks again JS (and also I'm sure from the IRS)

Re: Install Turbotax--Setup.exe error-Framework error

Odd. I installed TurboTax on an XP SP2 windows installation. It installed

net framework version 2.0 from the TT CD. I know that for sure as I wasn't

online (external phone modem). The 2.0 version was installed over the

presently installed 1.1 version. I did not buy the TT in a store, rather

directly from Intuit. Premier version of TT.

I did go online after installing TT completely to get TT updates to the

program. Windows update is set to notify me of updates only, and I did not

choose to update anything. Normally, I do not go online with the PC with XP

SP2 noted. Mostly for a little bit aged games and such. I updated with the

SP2 update from MS. I purposely avoided updates for net framework to 2 or 3

as my imaging program I use relies on the 1 version, and the program is no

longer supported by Powerquest or Symantec (DriveImage 7). DI 7 is still

working, so I guess my fears were unfounded.

Re: Install Turbotax--Setup.exe error-Framework error

Had no problems, did not need to install using Safe Mode, so I can't help on

this issue. You may need to call TT Support.

You should however see if you can download and install updates as I did in

the past have an issue as it would fail to update.

9th injector simulated the accelerator pump.

10th injector was needd at the high end as 8 was a little short on fuel

flow.

All my cars were setup for high speed road raceing and not the 1/4 mile.

So axles varied between 3.08 and 3.75

Sounds like you had quite a blast in your younger days!

I remember the 8 tall stacks on the A/FX cars, but can't say I

remember 10. Been learning quite a bit from you and I appreciate

it.

I can't recall any of my friends doing this sort of thing. Quite

a few got a bit more serious about drag racing but those were the

days of dodging the draft - legally! - and going to college,

neither of which was conducive to serious racing. e.g., I

graduated H.S. in 1965, right at the start of the muscle car era.

I lasted one year after college with an Engineering degree in

1969 before I got my "Greetings!" from Uncle Sam. By the time I

came home in late January, 1972, the Woodward Avenue drag racing

gig was almost literally gone. Apparently, while I was gone, the

cops cleaned it all up. So, I missed all the good stuff as did my

college-bound friends.
