Hi all

I have a Kodak easyshare (that's a laugh) Z915 and when I try and put my video's from it into Windows Movie Maker to create a movie it will not move over. I can move the video file from the CF card into my video's in my documents but when I "import video" from WMM it just isnt showing in the "my video's" file.

I have noticed that the file comes up as a "Quicktime movie" file, have even gone to "properties" and changed the opening program to Windows Media Player but it does not work when I click on play! it comes up with a sentence

"Windows media player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"

I would really like to be able to play around with these video's like adding music, titles, transitions etc.

Is there a way to change how the video's recorded on the Kodak digital camera are played/uploaded into the computer so WMM can import them.

I use Windows XP professional, 2GB of RAM 'Intel Pentium Dua CPU'l

Your help would be very appreciated, thank you.

Kind regards

Paul

Hi, in truth these Quicktime files are a nuisance, I recently went through this problem with a similar file that I needed to edit, in order to upload it to YouTube. Without paying for the Quicktime editor there is no other choice available that I could find, and believe me I searched. Consequently that video is still useless to me as I saw no reason to buy the Quicktime editor just for one video.

My advice is sell that camera and buy one that will produce video in a format that Windows Movie maker can handle.

if you do decide to do that, check out any prospective new camera and make sure it is one that comes with a software bundle that includes a video editor, I did when I bought my Panasonic SD card machine.

Hi Paul

I may have to have a look at doing that, thanks.

Hi Nev

TBH mate I can't sell the camera as my wife bought it for me as my birthday present! I still have my Samsung digi camera and mybe I will use that for the odd video instead as that transfers onto WMP easily. I will have to see how much that codec pack is and what it does etc.

Kind regards to you both

Hi Paul

Thanks for that m8, I have already installed the K-lite codec pack (the standard one) but, unfortunately it still will not play on my WMP and the same error message is coming up!

"Windows media player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file"

I don't have a clue now what I am supposed to be doing:(.

One thing to mention though is that when I looked at the video files in my video's the were not longer showing the "quicktime" logo on the file but it had I presume as the WMP circle with the quarter colours of red, green, yellow and blue.

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind regards

How do I convert the video file from Quicktime to a file that WMP understands or does it do it automatically?

Which converter do you use mate or does it not matter which one I use?

Kind regards

Hi, from Paul's description I had a look round, and I think he means this-

Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG

I haven't downloaded to try it yet myself, but it looks promising.

Thanks for that Paul, I have downloaded it, and will install it later to give it a try with this high definition QT file I have. I have to go out soon, hence installing to try later.

I tried searching everywhere a couple of months back to convert that file and gave up in the end, yet this program must have been there, just didn't find it.

I'm really sorry to be a pain but, I really am lost on this! I have downloaded the converter that Nev put on here, I have converted a Quicktime video file into a mpeg4 file and it shows in the "converted" mobile phone section (I don't know why it went into there though). I have put it into "my videos" in my documents on my pc but the same is still happening! when I try to "import" the video from the "my videos" section into WMM it isn't even showing in there but it definitely is!!!

I am getting a bit fed up now as I just don'y have the ability to work out what is going wrong.

Can someone do me a step by step instruction on how to do this simple task!!

Many thanks

Hi Paul

Have done that mate and it has worked!!:D It was the fact that it was set on the mobile phone mpeg4 setting but I didn't realise this until you told me that it was on the right hand side of the window, Cheers.

Kind regards

And thanks also PaulC from me for that converter, I chose to convert to MPEG2 as I have a video editor that works best with that format and it certainly did the business for me too.

Paul (Maddon37s) nice loco's by the way, but I have driven steam and know which I prefer:D

However if using the Windows Moviemaker I suggest selecting WMV from that drop down menu, it may be a quicker conversion, and Moviemaker will work well with that format.

In my case it took two hours to convert 13 minutes of video. it was originally recorded on a friends camcorder and passed over to me on a USB flash drive. it turned out to be high definition H264 format which is a high quality Quick time large screen thing, so that is probably why it took so long to convert. Frame size is 1440X1080 and frames per second is 30. Now at standard MPEG2.
