Microsoft Wireless Opti Mouse 4000 Not Working

I have a gateway 1450 solo laptop. I recently had a external hard drive

installed with a usb card installed. My wireless mouse was working before

this installation, but after that, all i get is a PS/2 mouse install when i

install the wireless mouse. I have unistalled the software, followed all the

manufacturers fixes, but still the mouse will not work anymore. I have also

tried different USB ports and still no luck. My Batteries are all new.

Anyone have this problem? I am running windows xp.

"With a USB Card Installed ?" - A PC Card type USB 2.0 card ? Are

you plugging the Wireless mouse receiver into the built-in USB socket

or one of the expansion card sockets ?

It's hard to follow your description of a PS/2 mouse install, is that what

the New Hardware wizard indicates when it runs ? If so it is likely the

touchpad that is being detected not the wireless receiver.

Re: Microsoft Wireless Opti Mouse 4000 Not Working

I have plugged the wireless mouse into both the USB card and into the USB

port into the back of the laptop. When i get the "New Hardware found", it

shows the Opti Mouse, and it installs the drivers, but when i go into the

device manager, it only shows the PS/2 mouse, not the wireless mouse. I have

the opti mouse icon on my desktop. but that only comes up with the PS/2

mouse. For some reason, i cant get the mouse drivers for the wireless mouse

into the "New hardware" or the device manager. Im kinda new at this, so

please bear with me. I use the disc that came with the mouse. This was

working before i had the USB card installed, now nothing.
