Hi helpmaboab,

my guess is that it should still be under warranty, if it has been unreliable from new I can only recommend sending it back.

We can of course probably help further if you wish, but we do normally try to stay away from any fixes that may invalidate the warranty. This is of course in your best interests.

If you do wish to continue, can you tell us any more about the messages you get at start up before it freezes. Thanks,

Nev.

Hi Nev I;ve got the feeling that the warranty is a nono this was a refurbish model and I bought it because it was cheap,it;s a really good machine aand apart from the dicky start up it goes great after I got rid of the rest of the headaches, when I power up it shows the 1st screen which says press F7 the next screen would show preparing to boot to os but it stops at the 1st screen windows repair is useless so Ipower down then restart.

Hi again, there would be no harm or cost in asking about any warranty, retailers do have a duty in law on that.

However, there could be quite few different things that could be the cause of this problem as it stands now.

Do you have any recovery disks, either a manufacturers recovery disk or better still a full disk of the operating system "Windows" originally from Microsoft?

A full repair of Windows might cure the problem, but a disk is needed for that.

The other thing may be a corrupt master boot record or worse a fault on the BIOS but lets take it one step at a time.

Thank you for coming back on this one Nev, as it was a refurbished and bought on the net it came with no warranty,I know that it could be returned but Ive always been fuzzy on dates, bought it last year for the wife[usual demon],and had to download loads of drivers for it,blu-ray wouldn't work and loads of other niggles but I prefer to have a bash rather than send it back to the monkeys that sent it out like that, which I find with loads of goods made nowadays. My wife likes the thing which in itself is amazing so apart from the boot niggle she uses it constantly,I've checked the fan,it's ok not checked the graphics card yet,I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the bios, and no it didn't ship with a disc for Vista, nice to hear from you again I was beginning to despair .Cheers

All refurbished PC and Laptops come with a full 12 month warranty

A direct quote from pc worlds website even if ordered online so if it's been playing up since purchase i'd bite the bullet and return it.
