Guest joeB545 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Am using redirected folders and roaming profiles for our Win 2003 domain and Office 2007 running on Win XP SP2 clients. My Documents is redirected to the share \\Server\Users\%username%\My Documents. The Open File dialog opens and immediately closes when I press Ctrl + O in Word and Excel; both crash when I attempt to save a new document. Other programs do not exhibit this behavior and I do not have the problems with Office when I am logged on as Administrator. How can I fix this problem? -- joe B

Since you say you're using roaming profiles, note that you should also be redirecting Application Data (and ideally also Desktop). I'm presuming your admin account does not use a roaming profile, folder redirection, or login script (you definitely want to keep admin accounts *vanilla*). While logged in as a user: Check the event logs & the output of an rsop.msc Open a command prompt and type net use to see if you have any disconnected or unavailable shares/drives Make sure you can open \\Server\Users\%username%\My Documents - and open and save files therein
Guest joeB545 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Re: Using Office 2007 with redirected folders I am redirecting the Application Data and Desktop. The Administrator account does not use roaming profiles; it is using redirection. There is not problem with saving files from other programs into the redirected folders for Administrators and non-Administrators. I did find a work around, but I don't know why it works. I mapped the home folder, which is where the redirected files are located, to drive H:. I went into the Word Options|Save and replaced "\\server\users\%UserName% with "H:\My Documents" in default file location field. Word apparently cannot handle a UNC. Does this seem normal and is there something that I should do? Thanks in advance. -- joe B "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" wrote: > joeB545 <joeB545@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > Am using redirected folders and roaming profiles for our Win 2003 > > domain and Office 2007 running on Win XP SP2 clients. Guest joeB545 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Using Office 2007 with redirected folders Regarding the Administator account, I have not set up a specific OU, because my domain is so small. So by default, the domain is the only OU. Should I create an explicit OU under the domain and move the non-admin users to it, and then set up GPO for that OU? Guest joeB545 Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Using Office 2007 with redirected folders I found and solved the problem! The problem was that I had set the Share Permissions for Everyone to have Full Control, but I did not set the NTFS permissions for the root fold (\\Server\Users) so that Everyone had Read Permissions. Since the Administrator had NTFS permissions, that account experienced no problems. Thank you for your time and help. -- joe B "Lanwench [MVP - Exchange]" wrote: > joeB545 <joeB545@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > Regarding the Administator account, I have not set up a specific OU, > > because my domain is so small. > > I'd still do it.
