'Device Wizard' popping up after booting.

The other day I tried installing an HP printer and ran into a world of

trouble that ended with the system freezing, the printer stuck 'on' and

indicating an error state, and requiring me to kill main AC power to end and

shutdown. After re-boot, I completely uninstalled the HP drivers and all

associated folders/files.

The problem is that the HP installation apparently added a Windows Hardware

Driver wizard and an associated toolbar popup that says "new hardware found"

to the registry, and they both appear everytime I boot. VERY annoying.

There is no new hardware. As a system driver check indicates, only the

hardware and drivers that I know about present, and are all working as they

should. A registry check, via Ccleaner, shows no problems such as unresolved

links.

Question is, does anyone know where to find the call to this Wizard in the

registry so that I can find it and fix it manually? Unfortunately, I forgot

about this login issue, and cleaned out all the restore points when I

'thought' everything was fine. Can't do a restore. Any thoughts much

appreciated.

Best, Paul

One other thing. At the same time I also uninstalled the Intel Wireless

system from the computer. Is it possible that I'm getting the wizard because

it's looking at the wireless receiver as plugged in but not installed?

Almost all HP printers, etc. The software must be installed first and then plugged

in when instructed to do so.

Not having the PC in front of me it is hard to say about the wireless. You could try

reinstalling the chipset drivers.

Re: 'Device Wizard' popping up after booting.

Frank,

Well, it wasn't the printer causing the problem. It WAS the wireless

uninstall. I checked 'device drivers', and found the wireless network

connection to be not working(kinda expected this as the driver had been

tossed). Apparently I was correct in thinking that maybe the detection device

is considered hardware, and having no driver was initiating the 'new

hardware found' wizard at boot. As per your suggestion, I reinstalled the

wireless drivers, tested, and no more annoying wizard at logon. Thanks for

the push in the right direction.

Best, Paul
