If you are trying to confirm proper operation, set the date to March 9, 2008

and the time to 1:59 AM, wait until the clock reads "2:00 AM" and see if

Windows resets the time to 3:00 AM.

Hello:

I seem to recall reading about what Ben is saying. Even after the changes

are made to the registry time zone entries, the changes only "catch" when

the date and time crosses either the spring or fall DST boundaries. So you

need to follow the procedure as outlined by Ben to test proper operation of

your time zone registry entries.

I see nothing that you posted as "very important" reasons not to use

DST, all I see is bitching that you don't want or don't like having

people engaging in an extra hour of sporting activities or enjoying

other pleasant pursuits during that extra hour of daylight after a long

day at work!

This may be a perfect example of a hijacked thread!!!

The problem is that the time wouldn't change; it appeared to be still

operating under Eastern Standard Time, instead of Eastern Daylight Savings

Time. However, I just tried your suggestion and indeed the change does take

effect as scheduled.

It's obvious I have a problem with the date/time program. If I go and change

the time zone from Eastern to Pacific, the time doesn't change. I don't

think it's a big issue because there should be no reason to change times

except for DST.

Thanks for the feedback Ben. At least it confirmed that TXedit was not the

issue.

Hi John.....ignore him. He lives in a *parallel universe* and most of

the time makes absolutely no sense at all. I often wonder how he made

it to the age he claims to be......drifting aimlessly and totally

unaware of real life problems or joys.

What a 'bull' and I didn't do any 'bitching', that suits you much better.

If you like it, fine, but that doesn't mean I also have to.

I said 'one reason and there are others', but as far as I am concerned,

we can leave it at that, yielding any other suggestions. <H>.

Well this is what you said:

"I think "DST" should be outlawed. It's sole purpose is to allow the

golfers an extra hour of play in the summer time, that's all, other

reasons for it are plain fiction (hogwash)."

That certainly sounds like bitching and sour grapes to me! It sounds

like you feel that people having fun physical activities is a bad thing!

Maybe instead of enjoying outdoor fun after supper people should just

sit on their fat fannies!

Then your apparently "very important" reason:

"...all it does is to upset one's bio-rythm".

Well gee, aren't you retired? What the heck does it matter what the

time on the clock reads? You can go to bed or get up at whatever time

you want so I can't see why *your* bio-rythm should qualify as a "very

important" reason to abandon DST. Maybe you should buy very heavy light

impenetrable curtains and draw them all shut tight an hour early and

leave the outdoor fun for others!

He is NOT included in our social group, which is why he is so snarky!!

On my Windows ME system, the clock does not change when switching

time zones. Also, when changes are made using Tzedit, the clock is not

immediately affected. The change takes place on the date and time

I am at a point where I manually change to the correct time via the official

US-time:

http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?Eastern/d/-5/java

The shortcut is residing on my desktop, allowing me to check anytime I

please and, while doing so, to correct the time, if need be. Anyone's

Nowadays my clocks need have just the two settings, alive and dead. As

long as the hands point at "alive" I know I'm OK. Whether it is morning,

noon or night or winter or summer no longer matters. <g>

Hi Sir Michael......I guess you do have a point or two (bad pun, groan).

Anyhow....must return your email. Got busy with eBay bidding and that

is SO ADDICTIVE!!. But I did manage to restrain myself somewhat. Got a

lot of Swarovski crystals though......plus a batch or two for Elayne.

Had to cuz I got her hooked on joolz (a la nellie) at Xmas. Off to try

and make up something. Problem is I have WAY too much inventory and

don't know where to start.

Note to self....I can hear Mikey saying, "start at the beginning,

twit"....snicker.

I thought it would be:

a) Tie a knot in it

b) Start threading

Catch you later - bed calling. :-)

It may interest you to know, we've got 12+ clocks in our house.

Does that explain, why I dislike DST (darn shifting time)? <H>.

About the same....we have 4 in the kitchen alone. But I don't mind

changing them. Ron is *clock-challenged*, so I end up doing it.

In fact, if I added them up, I have way more than you, but when you are

retired, old man.....it gives you a whole new thing to do twice a year,

lol.

I laughed today......I had to replace my 11 year old Jetta battery and

of course that mucked up the theft prevention stuff for my

radio/cdplayer. I phoned the dealer and he walked me thru it.....once I

found the damn code for it. I had TWO chances to get it right......then

it would cost me $50 for the dealer to do it. Got it in ONE!!

Yay.....superbrain strikes again.

The dealer says the thieves leave VW alone because they can't sell the

ripped out radios without that code. That was my fun for the day.

Doesn't take much to amuse (or scare) me.
