My laptop keeps on saying "trying to acquire new IP address". I resolved this the other week but never wrote down the solution. You need to type in cmd and from there you can bring up a list of options to choose from. One is not assigned when it should be. I can't remember for the life of me what to type in to get there and can't find the original forum. Next time i'll write it down. Cheers.

Here is a list of commands:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/ipconfig.mspx?mfr=true

I find when this happens to my babys computer and it often does I right click on the adaptor and choose repair or even an update of the driver.

1. DHCP Service not running.

2. Duplicate IP address on the network.

3. Bad NIC card drivers.

4. Defective NIC hardware

Resolution:

1. Check Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. The DHCP Client service should be Started and its Startup Type should be Automatic.

2. Turn off ALL of the computerand other network connected devices, reboot the router, then restart all the computers and other network devices.

3. Check for upgraded drivers and/or reload the Network drivers.

4. Replace the Network Interface Card.

Hi,

At the command prompt type ......ipconfig /renew ( there is a space after config ).

Also bottom right of screen should be an icon ( 2 monitors )

Right click on this and there should be an option to repair.

There is an email going around offering processed pork - gelatin - and salt in a can ......this is simply SPAM !!
