New hardware found wizard "help"!

Hi

i deal with these DX 2400 and other dx models on a daily basis.

Usually the drivers are installed within XP itself (generic) and with Vista etc, i have only seen it once when it wouldnt.

i used this driver and it worked fine, it is the correct driver for the machine.

Download HP-Compaq-DX2450-USB-Smartcard-Keyboard-Driver-For-XP.exe for free on uploading.com

I just opted for the free one to see what happened anyway - seemed to run okay (was verrrry quick though?!) and so I unistalled all the unknown devices again and rebooted... and all 5 new found harware wizards have popped up again :eek:

the install will be pretty quick, like i said the drivers are usually built in and small.

now you have tried remoing trhe devices, have you tried running the install again from the file you downloaded.

please give that a try once more.....

i will take a look inside one of these PC's in a moment. you way want to try removing the device from the motherboard(easy to do) and trying on another USB header to make sure (again very easy).

i can guide you through this.

I've tried running the install again (Chipset one?) and again - access denied.

 

However - something different has happened since I downloaded the one you gave me - I now don't have 5 unknown devices under other devices with yellow question marks...I have just one that says USB-2.0-CRW... and has a question mark with an exclamation mark over the top! If I click on properties it says "device not configured correctly, code1" and to reinstall driver which just takes me on a series of wizard helps until declaring it can't help as needs the necessary software....

Is this progress?! ;)

please can you list, what USB devices you have plugged in at the minute.

try extracting the file you have downlaod..usually install to c:\swsetup, go into device manager, click the usb cdw and let it browse through the swsetup directory, see if it finds the driver from there.

i have not actually seen usb crw on these machine before.

after a breif look on google, people see this devie as a memory car reader 68in1 so may be that.

if so the drivers i linked too should work.

try downloading the chipset driver again from here.

access denied that is very strange, have you scanned your computer for any infections.

i haev downloaded these files and tested them and all is fine.

you could try booting into safe miode with networking and try installing them from there. tap f8 at startup before the xp logo and choose the relevant option.

very strange.....do you get access denied on any other part of your computer.

do you have admin rights to your machine....are you using a limtied user account.

ago to start>control panel>user accounts, to check.

i dont believe free pc help offers remote support. but i am more then happy to have a look at an agreed time.....via a small program called crossloops.....its secure and can be removed once i have looked at your machine.

try above first though

I have just gone through and perfomred every malware and spyware anti virus scans known to man and restarted - still just getting that one wizard pop up and the one unknown device showing... haven't tried the safemode option yet - will do that next...

oh dear - have perfomred the install whilst in safemode - all looked well as I got no access denied message coming up....rebooted and then got the same wizards popping up again as usual...:mad:

 

Anyone want a second hand pc? In bits??!

Hello Casswilf. I might be starting this all over but do you have your driver CD with you? It must be a CD that you got at the time of purchase of the computer and will contain all the required drivers for your computer.

 

Just read the whole thread again and thought this wasn't brought up before. :)

Thanks for this - and I'll be real embarrassed if that turns out to be the issue - I didn't actually set up the PC after I bought it so it could well be:rolleyes:

Have found a bunch of CD's .. nothing marked driver CD - would it be "Operating system dvd"?

Hi Caswilf, just popped in to say please don't try any of the disks you have yet unless you have one that definitely has the word "Drivers" in its title. The operating system disk you mention is to completely reload the operating system, and if allowed to continue after inserting may wipe all your information and data before re installing XP. You would still need to install the drivers after that anyway.

At the moment a re install of XP is a very much last resort.

Hi again, if you can list the titles on each disk it may help us to decipher which one is the right one, as sometimes a disk just marked up as for the mother board is the one wanted.

Okay I found the following that came with the PC -

Looking at them - they're still in their wallets and looks as though they have never been opened... When I got this pC I was working from home and my old one had died. I need to get cracking again in a hurry and so got a local guy in to set it all up for me - he transferred everything across from my old pc for me but I never stood over him and watched what he did - he's pretty well known in the local area so I don't think he would have done anything awful knowingly but maybe he has done some short cuts or something not quite properly...

What do you reckon? I'd of had the machine a year next month and can't remember when I started to see this problem first occurring...

At this post you said "I tried to remember why I even had it and then I remembered that it seems as though some usb ports on the tower don't actually work, being lazy I thought I could get around that by using the hub".

 

You might need a new USB card which are cheap. Just a guess.

Thanks Randy - would that solve my problem? if inexpensive I may just go and get one.

I rang the company I bought it from as still have a year of warranty left - I was told to back everytging up to a disc and then insert the system restore disk - which I really don't want to do if I can help it!

Such a frustrating problem.
