Twiceshy Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 Hi Starbuck, instructions followed but unfortunately, no success :( With regards to the MS office 2007 disc, sorry but as previously mentioned I have none of the discs... Quote
ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 27, 2010 ExTS Admin Posted February 27, 2010 Hi Twiceshy, as always, i'll explain afterwards why i asked questions. ( it's just my way) The system recovery on your laptop gives us 3 options: Non-destructive recovery: this option will restore Windows, supplied applications, and drivers. This option will not destroy your documents or programs. These will be backed up along with the registry. These are restored at the end of the recovery process. System Recovery - No format: this will reinstall Windows, supplied applications and drivers. It will move your files to a folder called "My old disk structure". Any applications (except those supplied) will need to be reinstalled. System Recovery - Quick format: this option will erase your hard drive including your personal files. Windows, supplied applications and drivers will be reinstalled. I'm trying to think of the best option for you. Something isn't right and from what i can see, your best option is to go with the 'System Recovery'. I don't say this lightly, it's always a last resort option as far as i'm concerned. In 2 years of doing this, i've only recommended this a handful of times. But like i say, i'm trying to think of the best recovery option for you. Take a look at the options and let me know which you would prefer. Some options will require discs to add programs back. At the end of the day, i don't want you to lose any programs if it can be avoided. Quote Member of:UNITE
Tootech Posted February 28, 2010 Posted February 28, 2010 Can I just add a few ideas before you run a full recovery? Just want to make sure you are running XP - if not don't follow the instructions. Did you install all of the BT Hub software - if so, uninstall and restart, make sure Windows still controls your wireless adapter. Go to Control Panel>Network Connections>Your_Wireless_Adapter and then down to Properties. Click on the TCP-IP V4 and make sure the settings for IP and DNS are set to Auto. Then click Start>Run>cmd and press Enter Type or paste this line in to the command prompt black box and press Enter ipconfig /all >Desktop\Ipconfig.txt There should be a file on your Desktop now called Ipconfig.txt, open it and post the contents on the forum. Next, do you have security software installed that contains a firewall? If so uninstall it, restart and check your wireless. If nothing has changed, go to Device Manager, uninstall your wirless adapter, and restart. Windows will find your adapter and reinstall the drivers. Hook up your wireless again - you will probably need to reconnect to the hub and type in the security key. Does it work ok now? If not, download and run this file, then reboot and test again. |MG| WinSock XP Fix 1.2 Download If you need any help with any of the above, just ask. If I'm not around one of the others should be able to help. How are things looking after that lot? Quote

ExTS Admin Starbuck Posted February 28, 2010 ExTS Admin Posted February 28, 2010 Thanks for the input Tootech, Anything that prevents having to do a reinstall is always worth trying. Like i said earlier, the problems aren't malware related.... so let's hope your suggestions can save the day. :) Quote Member of:UNITE
Twiceshy Posted March 1, 2010 Author Posted March 1, 2010 Possibly ANOTHER stupid question??? First of all may I ask my 'stupid question'? Re: Tootech - 'Just want to make sure you are running XP'.... How do I check if I am running XP? Now that I have got that out of the way can I just, once again, thank ALL OF YOU for your patience , understanding and help :) , especially Starbuck. I really must come across as 'one thick dame' and I guess before I ever bought my laptop I should have read, 'An idiots guide to using a laptop'!!! :o (ps. As I work permanent night shift as an EMI carer, I'm sorry that it has taken so long in asking my question.) Quote

Tootech Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I don't think Tootech realises what I'm like, but he did say to ask if I wasn't sure... No Problem! I posted the whole set of instructions so the other members can see where I am going, that way they can help too. The idea is that you remove anything that may interfere with your network connection, then check the settings and post them for us to see, then go through one or two other possibilities. Take your time and ask whenever you need to....... Quote
Twiceshy Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 Go to add remove programs remove all entries associated with BT then reboot then follow the rest of Tooltechs instructions Hi Guys...The Dumb Dame is back :o Have followed the above instructions but there are NO entries showing associated with BT? Totally baffled! Quote
Twiceshy Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 Tootech, you said, 'There should be a file on your Desktop now called Ipconfig.txt, open it and post the contents on the forum.' ....I typed ipconfig /all >Desktop\lpconfig.txt but on checking desktop there was no file??? (A box did appear on screen when I clicked OK to run, but it disappeared immediately). Quote
