twedspeed Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Hi , apparently I can watch a DVD on my P.C. , but in my experience nothing ever works - whenever I put the DVD in all that happens is , something called windows media player pops up with a big box in the middle , that also has windows media player written on it , that displays a big red cross and the message , "windows media player cannot pay the DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer , " is there any thing I can do or should I just nip to tesco and buy a DVD player 29.99. Any help much appreciated . Quote
PseFrank Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 Hi twedspeed, I'm certainly not an expert when it comes to video and audio, but the following link may help. K-Lite Codec Pack - Download To find out which operating system you have ( we already know that it's windows based ) 1. Click Start 2. Right click "My Computer"......OR "Computer" if Vista and onward. 3. Left click "Properties" from the drop down menu. You will now see a window that gives some details of your operating system. Frank. Quote I thought I knew today...I'll try again tomorrow. :) Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. PseFrank Posted February 22, 2010 Posted February 22, 2010 thanks i did that and followed your info to a page full of writing , IM VISTA HOME BASIC APPARENTLY still no dvd tho I'm assuming that you have downloaded the K-Lite pack. It would have invited you to save the download. Did you save it?...Where did you save it to? The download comes in the form of a .exe file. Go to where you saved the file and double click on it to install it. Then follow the prompts given...... Have you already done this? RandyL Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 PseFrank wants you to download and install the codecs that may enable you to view DVD's. I'm going to assume you have Vista Home Basic which won't have the proper codecs unless you have a third party player installed. If you follow his link you will get to this link. Download K-Lite Codec Pack If you click on the Free Download on that page you will get this link. Download K-Lite Codec Pack On that page you will see if your download does not start automatically, click here You may need to click on the notification bar at the top of your browser to allow the download. Their server seems to be unreliable at the moment so you may need to try again later. Choose Save. Go to where you saved it. Double click the file. Quote We are all members helping other members.
