media player help

Hi

 

I am trying to open avi files with windows media player on a vista computer however only the sound is playing nothing is actually showing please can you offer some advice to amend/fix.

 

I know the computer is clear from malware/viruses

codex!! in one word, your missing the right ones, try downloading and installing this one

but be warned if your downloading from torrent sites etc that quite often you will get told you need to download a certain codec from a certain site, you still won't get to watch the DVD but will end up with a virus.

 

hence why it is always best to pay and download a movie from a reputable site.

Thanks! Cool yea i dont tend to download movies myself but living on an RAF base I often get stuck on duty and someone leaves a portable hd to watch

 

lol havin a few dramas with virus' at the mo grrr flash players lol

Vista Home Basic I assume. Like Match said you need the codecs as Basic won't have them.
