Windows 2008 run scheduled task as domain account ?

I'm trying to create a scheduled task in Windows 2008 server to run as a

domain services account but I can't seem to set a task to run as any account

other than me, even though I get a browse button to chose the account to run

as.

In fact when I try to change accounts back to myself I still get an error

"The specified account name is not valid"

I've been able to do this under W2003, what's the trick to getting it to

work in W2008?

Thanks

Try specifying the user name in the format "domain_name\user_name". On a

member server it might be trying to use a local account as in

"computer_name\user_name".

Re: Windows 2008 run scheduled task as domain account ?

That doesn't seem to work either

It's strange say my domain is "mydomain.co.uk" or DOMAIN

If I try to enter either DOMAIN\username or username@mydomain.co.uk it gets

changed to MYDOMAIN\username. Same thing happens if I type it in or select

from he domain.

Same thing happens on Vista SP1 as well as W2008 and I've tried on two

completely separate domains with the same result

I wonder if it can't cope with CCTLDs longer than .COM ?

Re: Windows 2008 run scheduled task as domain account ?

When specifying the domain in a user name with that format you only use the

NETBIOS name of the domain. In this case it would be MYDOMAIN\user_name. It

sounds like something else is the problem though. It could be a DNS problem

resolving a domain controller to authenticate the account.

Re: Windows 2008 run scheduled task as domain account ?

Very strange but I've got the same issue happening on two completely

unconnected domains, one "domain.org.uk" and one "domain.co.uk"

for domainname.org.uk which has the old style NETBIOS domain name DOMAIN

when I try to enter DOMAIN\username its changed to DOMAINNAME\username where

domainname is the first part of the DNS name.

Very curious, I can get round it by logging on as the service account itself

and then creating the task without changing the account name, but it's a bit

of a nuisance.
