Ping wrong IP WINXP Prof

Comment:

When I execute the command ping http://www.hingedmind.com I get a local ip

address. i.e. 10.0.0.10 and when I ping hingedmind.com I get 75.125.60.9,

which is the correct address.

The problem:

I am unable to access this URL through any browser. Another system on

the same network has no problems. The other system on the network when they

ping sees the correct ip address for both ways.

This makes me feel the problem is my system (XP Prof). What is it that

is making my system default to a local ip address when I ping a domain name?

Hope this makes sense and thanks.

You might have a long-forgotten entry in your hosts file

(c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts). Get rid of it!
