Desktop/Screen settings

Hello

I recently changed my screen/desktop settings by adapting the screen

properties, thus creating a 'new' theme. All works as advertised but when I

restart the computer the screen settings revert to a "standard" scheme.

My 'theme' however is available (as shown in the 'Theme" available menus)

and current, but is not activated. I then have to activate it and, after a

few seconds waiting time, it works.

I use the settings: 'Windows-classic' for windows & buttons and

'windows-standard' for colour combination.

Can someone explain me what to do in order to start with 'my theme' when I

restart the computer?

MC

Hi Marc,

Are you running as a Limited user? Possibly the restrictions are

causing it not to take effect on one or more of the changed items. Log

in as Administrator and change the theme and log off and back on. If it

works, the limitation is probably on your User.

In your current account, also try creating a new Theme and start with

one change, save it, log off and back in to see if the change takes

effect. If it does, add another change, save it, and repeat each time

until you find out what is causing the theme to fail.

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to

make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:

Ad-aware's Ad-Watch

IBM Access Connections

Kaspersky

McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware

Norton AV

Spyware Blaster

Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks

Spybot- Teatimer

Spysweeper

Spyware Doctor

Windows Defender

Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be

uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you

reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.
