RandyL Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Hi frostini. Unfortunately Microsofts licensing rules are clear in this matter. You have to pay for every single installation unless a previous installation is unregistered. For that you have to convince Microsoft that a previous installation is uninstalled. What it sounds like is that they used their disk to install Windows. Unfortunately that key would already be in use and registered so you can't use it. Validation probably failed. There is a way to check this if you want to. If it fails you have every right to take action against the shop. Quote We are all members helping other members. PCandLaptopRepair Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Yes, go to Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com and search for 'VLC', download the VLC media player (free of charge). This will play any DVD in your drive, simply load the DVD into the drive, Start-Run-VLC Player, then File-Open DVD... Hope this helps. Quote
Tootech Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 VLC will do what you want as far as DVD's go. Thing is though, if your copy of Windows is pirate in some way you will run in to other problems. Go back to the shop, explain what has happened and see what the shop says - there may be a genuine mistake. If they won't help you, offer to go back to Microsoft yourself and tell them a shop installed a copy of Windows that now has a problem - that may kick them into action. Quote
