Office 2003 and XP Pro all up to date

I received new MS Security updates today.

All five were NOT installed even after I clicked the "shield" and OK'd the install.

What causes this issue and what is a work-around?

TIA EagleOne

Re: "Updates cannot be installed"

Tip: Temporarily disable real-time protection by your anti-virus and/or

anti-spyware applications (e.g., CounterSpy, Spysweeper, Spybot Tea Timer,

AVG Anti-Spyware) and/or any third-party firewall (e.g., ZA) before

attempting to install the update(s). If you disable the third-party

firewall, make certain that you enable the Windows Firewall!

Re: "Updates cannot be installed"

Excellent thought!

That said, I still had the issue.

Later I did fine a solution:

From the MS Knowledge base:

Office Update fails to Install with error 0x52F

Problem description

You may receive error 0x52F when you try to install an Office Updates. Applicable Office versions:

Office 2003

Applicable operating systems and products

Windows 2000

Windows XP

Windows Server 2003

Resolutions

1. Disabling the LIS would clean-up the registry setting and might fix the issue. If the update

requires source from cache and if it is

binary update, the first attempt at install might fail and the install will switch to full file for

the next detection cycle.

Download the Local Installation Source Tool from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=10FA7AA3-695B-42C3-9045-B812BA0FED3E&displaylang=en

Extract LisTool.exe and LisTool.chm to some location.

Run the GUI tool (LISTOOL.exe) and choose the Disable LIS option. Click next. Select all the check

boxes in the subsequent dialog. Then

proceed to Finish

Try doing a detect and install again.

YW. Had you included the 0x52F error in your first post, I probably could

have pointed you to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/903776

Re: "Updates cannot be installed"

PA-Bear,

At the time, I did not have that error #.

Thanks for posting back as I was not able to re-establish LIS until the information in your post.

Now all is OK!

Thanks EagleOne
