We'll it is a piece of software so I'm presuming this is the area for it....

I tried to open microsoft word but it wont open due to a 1606 error...Tried a re-install that hasn't worked and nor has doing a disk check worked either...Any ideas....I'd like to be able to write again preferably on word...Note pad isn't the best of programs to use....

Thanks in advance

Hi rebecca.

What version of Office or Word do you have?

Did you get this error before you tried to uninstall and reinstall Word or after?

It's the 2010 Beta version and the last time I used it was fine...Basically after to that question...I haven't installed anything recent that could of changed it...Well I found the following link:

Error message when you install a program: "Error 1606. Could not access network location <common administrative tools>. All users\"

one problem I don't have a common administrative tools section there...Also I then found this link:

"ERROR 1606 could not access network location..." - CNET Computer newbies Forums

There isn't a recent thing either....Any suggestions....

The reason I asked if you got that error after trying a reinstall is because a search gave me this link?

You receive an "Error 1606" error message when you try to install or remove a Microsoft program

One thing you have to consider though is that this is a beta version. That means it is untested and you are the one testing it.

As a tester it would be wise to direct your issues to them as that is the point of testing beta version products.

Thanks kenB...

Randyl I did and it didn't work...now the problem seems to be something else...I try to use sky I get network connection failed...I try to uninstall skype I get a failed during installation error...Along with hp pavilion support center giving me the same messages...You think it could be malware or something??? I don't know what to do because even the normal microsoft word wont open either so....

I'll look at all my programs and see if there are more that are refusing to open...

I really don't have a clue why you are getting all of these problems. Would it be possible to do a system restore? Maybe pick a point prior to the beta office?

I've tried a system restore point but it hasn't done anything....tried re-installing skype but it refuses to do so....I'll try another disk check and see if that comes up with anything...

Yepbut it comes up with that there isn't a system restore point to go back to....Also the disk check hasn't came up with anything...I've just messaged skype support to see if they can come up with anything....

A virus scan and malware scan hasn't come up with anything so I don't think it's infected....

skype support

well I got a message back from them and they told me to do this:

In order to solve this problem please follow these steps:

1. Quit Skype. Right click on Skype icon on system tray and choose

"Quit".

2. Press "Windows key" + R on your keyboard in order to open Run window

and type in shortcut command:

%appdata%\skype

3. Once Skype folder is opened please delete "shared.xml" file.

4. Then open your account folder and delete also "config.xml" file.

After deleting shared.xml and config.xml files please uninstall Skype as

follows:

1. From Start menu, click on "Control Panel" and then choose "Add/Remove

Programs".

If you are using Vista then: Start > Control Panel > Programs >

"Programs and Features".

2. Select Skype from the list and click on "Remove".

3. Go to C:\Program Files and delete the "Skype" folder from there.

4. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All users\ApplicationData and delete

the "Skype" folder from there.

For Vista: C:\ProgramData\

5. Open Start menu and select "Run". ("Windows key" + R)

6. Enter "regedit" in the text box and click "OK".

7. Open the "Edit" drop-down menu and click "Find".

8. Search for the keyword "Skype". Delete all search results.

After complete uninstallation please download and install the latest

version of Skype from:

http://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full

* Choose "Save" not "Run/Open"

So maybe sometimes contacting support is the best way to go...I'll have to remember it for future reference....
