Hi all

I have just bought a webam, it's a Vimicro USB PC ZC0301PLH. I have installed onto my computer (Windows XP) and it works ok but I cannot work out how the microphone works as I don't know which port to plug it into (It came with a separate jack plug to plug into the computer which I did not realise).

Anyway I have put a couple of pictures on this thread of the back of my computer to see if anyone out there knows which (if any) of the ports that the webcam microphone should plug into!

Picture one is of the top half of the computer rear

The second picture is of the bottom half of the computer rear

The middle USB connector is for the webcam and you can just see the jack plug hanging down in the right foreground.

Any help will as always be very gratefully received.

Many thanks

Paul

I would recommend putting it into the pink coloured connection thats is usually used for microphone connections. Also check that mic is configured in Volume Control which can be found in accessories

Thanks guys

Can anyone tell me what the Orange, Black & Blue jack plugs are for? How do I turn up the volume on the webcam because when I try to set the volume through the set up screen in yahoo messenger the indication lights don't light up and a box come up saying that it hasn't recognised any voice! Am I supposed to be able to hear my own voice on a video link or not. The reason I ask is because I never can hear myself and am wondering if this is correct!

Thanks again everyone

Kind regards

Paul

Hi Paul, on the bottom task bar on the right hand side, there should be a loudspeaker icon, a double click on it should bring up the complete volume control settings, make sure there is no tick in the microphone mute box, and also the slider is up.

Hi madon. I can't hear my voice when using the microphone on my headsets. If you want to check it open up the Windows Sound Recorder and record. Then save the file and play it back.

Hi Paul if using Messenger and the person at the other end can hear you then all must be OK, I have never tried speech on there myself though, but I have a microphone for the rare time when playing one of my instruments and need to record it, I have to be careful with the settings to prevent feedback or "howl round". But that is with an ordinary microphone not a webcam one. I believe folks using Skype can hear themselves and headsets are recommended to prevent howl round with that service.

Try the suggestion from Randy and see if it does record in the Windows sound recorder.

The only other thing to try is a separate microphone same as mine, and see if that can be heard, if not let us know as there may be some other setting may need looking at.

Oh, Just remembered, is there an advanced option in your microphone level setting? if there is, click on it and you should also then have a box with a choice to check it for "Microphone +20dB Boost" try checking that, your microphone may have a low output and will need that.

Nev.
