Having a couple of W7 issues

Issue 1

 

Starts to download updates then the process "freezse" (anywhere between 54 and 80% complete). If I stop and restart the download - Nothing, just the moving green bar and the display fixed at 0% downloaded.

 

Issue 2

 

Shutting the system down takes about an hour, not sure whether its due to the partial downloads from Issue 1. Shut down screen appears normal the starts displaying the "configuring windows" statement .

 

 

Advice any one?

Problems resolved, however I did find out a few of the windows 7 conflicts along the way!!

 

1. Tea Timer, the real time spyware app that comes with Spybot S & D stops windows update from working

2. If I want to install a printer, I have to turn off all firewall and anti-virus apps. If you don't, the printer drivers will never install.
