I am search for an Excel spreadsheet having a particular value in a cell.

Search Companion returns the message "There are no results to display.", when

if fact I know that the values is in one of the several spreadsheets I am

searching. When I do a "Find" for the value in these spreadsheets I find the

cell. The value is numberic in a text field (e.g.: 49804418) and yet Search

Companion doesn't find the file. What could be the problem?

Dunno.

Perhaps you would have better luck posting your question in an Excel

group, eh what?

You have written the number as text base 10. Excel may be storing the number

in some other fashion.

For example, 49804418 may be stored as "4.9804418E07"

"AAAAAAA" may be stored as "6*A"

and so on. Unless you know the conversion/compaction/shorthand the program

uses, you're out of luck.

You may have better luck using something like Agent Ransack (free at

http://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/ ) , rather than Windows Search,

Because of the "speed optimization features" Search ignores text in

"non-text" files.
