Windows Experience Index on an XP machine

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am considering upgrading a PC currently running XP to Vista and I

want to know what the Windows Experience Index will be. Is there any

way of finding this out before upgrading ?

Thanks,

Mike

No. You cannot have a WEI unless you are

actually using Windows Vista.

Carey answered your question, but I'd like to add that my advice is to

ignore the Windows Experience Index anyway. In my experience, it's

extremely misleading. One of the reasons for that is that it's

completely ignorant of, and therefore ignores, what you do with your

computer. For example, a high video score may be very important to

someone playing computer games, but be almost completely meaningless

to someone who does word processing.

Just out of curiosity, what are the specs of your computer; make and model #,

RAM, CPU speed, Hard drive type and space, and most importantly video card? How

old is this system?

What version of Vista are you contemplating upgrading to? Have you run the Vista

Upgrade Advisor to see if there are any issues with your system running the

version you're planning to run?

Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx

Also, what do you use your computer for? Is this a business machine or a home

computer?
