Guest Thorny Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Hi Guys, I have a customer who is running a windows 2003 domain in mixed mode and has 2 DCs, one is a File server and the other a SQL server. Whenever I try to log onto the console of the File server DC (either physically connecting to the machine or using mstsc /console), I enter the user credentials into the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen, then it show the 'applying personal settings' then 'saving your settings' before taking you back to the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen. I can successfully log onto the same machine using RDP (not using the console). There is nothing obvious in the event logs and all services are running. Does anyone have any ideas?

Guest Thorny Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Cannot log onto DC console Hi Dave, Interesting article, sounds like exactly what is happening, but unfortunately the OS drive letter is set to C, the same as it was during installation. Just for some additional information, the customer is connecting to an AX150 iSCSI SAN for the data drive. The OS is mirrored on the directly attached storage. Guest Dave Patrick Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Cannot log onto DC console The only other reason I can think is the drive permissions were altered. The local system account (nt authority) must have full control permissions of the boot partition (where the OS is installed). -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Dave Patrick Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Cannot log onto DC console Also note that this may be because Everyone permissions were removed which includes the system account. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Guest Benzo Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 RE: Cannot log onto DC console I am also getting this exact problem. We have 2 Arrays on our exchange server, 1 for the system drive and 1 for the data. Just had a drive fail on the Data array, I am unable to RDP to the consol session- it just says "saving your settings" and i cant log in physically infront of the server. After i type my login details it goes to a black screen. I am however able to RDP to the server - just not the console session. very strange "Thorny" wrote: > Hi Guys, > > I have a customer who is running a windows 2003 domain in mixed mode and has > 2 DCs, one is a File server and the other a SQL server. > > Whenever I try to log onto the console of the File server DC (either > physically connecting to the machine or using mstsc /console), I enter the > user credentials into the CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen, then it show the 'applying > personal settings' then 'saving your settings' before taking you back to the > CTRL+ALT+DELETE screen. > > I can successfully log onto the same machine using RDP (not using the > console). > > There is nothing obvious in the event logs and all services are running. > > Does anyone have any ideas?
