WindowsDefender vs. MonthlyMalicious ?

Hi,

I know that Windows Defender does a comprehesive file search and Posts "No

Unwanted or harmful software decteted - Your computer is running normally."

If your system is clean.

While a Free Microsoft Monthly Malicious download only looks for a hundred

or so known viruses.

So, Im just curious, as too why they offer both??

Thank you,

Jean

They offer one via Windows Update to allow most users to have some sort of protection

For me, don't download Windows Defender or if it's installed disable it & run Spybot

instead

The two target two different classes of infectors.

Re: WindowsDefender vs. MonthlyMalicious ?

Malicious Software download is a single scan operation directed at

Viruses and Windows Defender is providing real time anti-spyware

protection.

Hope this helps.

Windows Defender is a separate program which allows you to scan your

PC at any time.

Malicious download is Microsoft's attempt to scan your Windows so that

its updates will not be affect during the automatic updates.

Not correct.

Windows Defender is geared towards adware/spyware and performs "On Access" and "On Demand"

scanning capabilities for the targeted malware.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) is geared towards specific Trojans, Trojan

RootKits and Internet worms and only performs "On Demand" scanning abilities. Each month a

new version is available at Windows Update with newer signatures for newer threats in the

class of malware it targets.

David

Your original post was too vague for me.

Whereas I referred to viruses the KB Article describes malicious

software such as viruses, worms, and Trojan horses only.
