Guest biermanoski Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Hi, I know that Windows Defender does a comprehesive file search and Posts "No Unwanted or harmful software decteted - Your computer is running normally." If your system is clean. While a Free Microsoft Monthly Malicious download only looks for a hundred or so known viruses. So, Im just curious, as too why they offer both?? Thank you, Jean
Guest Newbie Coder Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: WindowsDefender vs. MonthlyMalicious ? They offer one via Windows Update to allow most users to have some sort of protection For me, don't download Windows Defender or if it's installed disable it & run Spybot instead -- Newbie Coder (It's just a name) "biermanoski" <biermanoski@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:52F0B207-E743-45A6-8D1C-87CF0B178B1F@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I know that Windows Defender does a comprehesive file search and Posts "No > Unwanted or harmful software decteted - Your computer is running normally." > If your system is clean. > > While a Free Microsoft Monthly Malicious download only looks for a hundred > or so known viruses. > > So, Im just curious, as too why they offer both?? > > Thank you, > Jean

Not correct. Windows Defender is geared towards adware/spyware and performs "On Access" and "On Demand" scanning capabilities for the targeted malware. The Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) is geared towards specific Trojans, Trojan RootKits and Internet worms and only performs "On Demand" scanning abilities. Each month a new version is available at Windows Update with newer signatures for newer threats in the class of malware it targets. -- Dave http://www.claymania.com/removal-trojan-adware.html Multi-AV - http://www.pctipp.ch/downloads/dl/35905.asp

Guest Gerry Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: WindowsDefender vs. MonthlyMalicious ? David Your original post was too vague for me.
