Hi All

I don't know if this is the right place to post this.

I'm back again! my partner's laptop has Vista basic. But we've let Microsoft office lapse and are using OpenOffice, GIMP etc..

The problem is that whilst we can convert MS documents to Openoffice and vice versa! She can't download .doc or .docx email attachments because they are greyed out. I'm assuming that MS is blocking them?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Dave

I think you need to change your default program for opening office documents to Open office since your using 7 go to the search type default programs click on set my defaults then the open office icon and set is as default that should sort it

Hi Armageddon

Thanks for your prompt response, the laptop is using Vista but I'll try your suggestion when I get home from work today. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again, Dave

Hi Armageddon

Yes it worked great thanks.

Start-Control Panel-Programs-Default Programs-Set default programs, then selected the .doc entry and changed it to open with 'swriter'. Ditto with .xls.

Kate can now read, copy, edit etc., all of her attachments. Yet again thank you very much this forum has proved invaluable.
