Guest GMR Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Now a days we are facing some strange issue in our file servers. Users are not able to rename/move/delete the excel files (first time they can do this, but once the file saved and closed they can't do it again). They are getting the error saying 'It is being used by another person or program' though it is not using by anyuser/program. If we reboot the server the issue will be resolved, but again the problem persists with some other files/shares. This is not with the particular user or share. OS in these servers is Windows 2003 Standard edition with SP2. We have upgraded to SP2 in one server and still the problem exists. Antivirus is upto date.
Guest JohnB Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Error moving file or folder - File locked When this happens, have you looked under Computer Management (on the server) to see who the files are in use by (under Shared Folders/Open Files)? Guest GMR Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Re: Error moving file or folder - File locked Hi John, I have checked that, there is no session running or it is not under open files also. I have got the patch from microsoft but unfortunately it didn't help us as we are already running the latest Service Pack 1 & 2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887707 "JohnB" wrote: > When this happens, have you looked under Computer Management (on the server) > to see who the files are in use by (under Shared Folders/Open Files)? > > > "GMR" <GMR@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:CF4A4885-FB8E-4BF9-ADE4-848304B62CCD@microsoft.com... > > Now a days we are facing some strange issue in our file servers. Guest Bob Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 RE: Error moving file or folder - File locked We beleive we have found the solution to your problem below. I worked with MS for 3 days and they proved that the problem has to do with opputunisic file locking. Temporarily we added a registry key that fixed the problem. The permanant solution is suppose to be applying a fix for our McAfee antivirus software on the problem server. McAfee released a hotfix for those of us that have McAfee 8 with patch 16!! This has resolved the issue. Go to: http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/hotfixes.asp?region=us&segment=enterprise and "VirusScan 8.0I" After installing this on the servers and rebooting there are no more problems with Excel, Adobe or AutoCad files. Guest Bob Posted April 16, 2008 Posted April 16, 2008 RE: Error moving file or folder - File locked SORRY. It's actually hotfix # "VSE80HF375377" that you need from McAfee.
