muppet rebecca Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Okies first off lets start by you giving us alittle bit more information for instance: What make/model is your computer? When exactly did the problems begin? What seems to be the problem in as much detail as possible?...For instance if it gives you an error code then tell us what that is because we can help you more with the knowledge.... In the meantime just sit tight and bear with the other helpfull members here.... Quote

In the meantime just sit tight and bear with the other helpfull members here....  Ok, first let's start with the dates the restoration: 2nd of march the black screen prob.: began yestereday (3/4) I have a strange CPU, look.. it's collected, that means that it's components not from the same company.. so I dunno what to say but on the CD-ROM there's LG logo and compaq disk rewritable. abt the CDs I got with the CPU.. well, alot of compaq CDs and ASRock motherboard, nero express LG..another CD (I.R.I.S), and my monitor is LG :D the problem is that the computer refuse to respond to anything, before the black screen prob. happen I pressed undo restore and that's all I've done!! Now, just when I press the startup button it makes a (peep) and a black screen shows and nothing else !!  but I'm sure that someone have done something to this computer, but I asked them and they told me "nothing.. just a restoration as we told you because this program called (anti-porn) was annoying us !!" I'm so angry cuz I know that they lied to me and something else happened by them but I can't know what is it !! muppet rebecca Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 You tried your monitor with another computer to just eliminate it out of the equation here.... Have you tried entering the BIOS setup when loading the computer this is generally by pressing f1 or del....As for the anti-porn pop up that sounds to me as if it could be a malware or viral infection to your computer.... Hmmm lets wait for plastic nev or randyl or match or.....If I keep on writing members names down I'll most likely fill in the whole post or forget someone...to tell us their insight.... Quote
KenB Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 Hi, If you switch on and immediately tap f8 ( about once per second ) does this take you to the Advanced Startup Options? If so - can you boot up using "Safe Mode"? You say that you have Compaq disks. Is this machine a HP Compaq ? Does one of the disks have "Operating System" or "Recovery" written on it / them ? emy Posted March 5, 2010 Author Posted March 5, 2010 abt the monitor, it's working.. I tried it on another CPU and it was normal. I dunno what is the BIOS?! but I pressed f1 and del. and nothing happened.. I installed anti-porn Bcuz alot of people say that it's a good prog. that prevent bad web pages from opening ! the expert himself installed it Also, I pressed f8 and there's nothing new.. and the compaq CDs, I dunno if it's HP or not but there is 3 CDs (operating system CD, restore CD, monitor series) I entered a CD and pressed on startup button and a black page opened with anot of lines and at the top there was something like system configeration.. down was written 'searching for boot record from CDROM' and another line was written and this page disappeared and again the black empty screen appeared!! Plastic Nev Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Hi OK still not a lot of information yet and what you say so far is a little confusing. Lets start with the case or box the computer is in, there should be a label somewhere that says who made it and what model it is, there should also be on that or those labels, the type of processor, size of hard drive, etc. Let us know what you find, or if you know for sure, was it a computer that has been built as a one off by someone, either yourself or some other person? If so, can you find out exactly what has been put in it? Nev. Quote  Need help with your computer problems? Then why not join Free PC Help. emy Posted March 6, 2010 Author Posted March 6, 2010 well, an engineer built this CPU but all that I know is that the hard size is 120 GB as I remember.. but the one who created the problem as I think is the one who tried to restore the computer and uninstall anti-porn.. if you can tell me just what to do to know the logo or the type of something.. all I know that the CPU is from a company for import and export as every piece in the case is from a different company. I have no idea what to do so please if there was something a little hard just try to explain how to do it.. thnQ.. Plastic Nev Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 OK Emy, i know now from what you say that it is a computer that has been built for you and not one from a manufacturer. We now need to know as much as possible about the disks that were given to you with the computer. can you describe what is written on each disk in as much detail as possible please, then we can hopefully work towards a repair of your system. I also realise that any hand written stuff on the disks may not be in English, so if possible a translation would help if you can. if not we will try ourselves. Nev. KenB Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) Hi Nev / emy emy, Which operating system are you using? In your profile it states XP. You have a Win98 installation CD. You have a recovery CD - is this for XP ? Does it mention XP on it? Nev - If emy has Win98..... If the Win98 CD is a genuine HP disk it will probably be no use on any other machine other than a HP. (It would be illegal to attempt to install it anyway :) ) They are able to recognise HP machines - at least the XP ones that I have come across do. Plastic Nev Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi again, considering that we can be pretty certain that this computer has been built out of bits or spare parts and is not a full manufactured one, I am beginning to suspect that all those disks may not be of any use at all, and have been just put in with the computer to make it look like a full deal without actually being one. However, if by any chance the machine was put together originally using those disks, and providing they will accept the environment they are in, a full re install of the operating system can at least be tried. A warning though, that will remove everything stored on that computer, all data, music, photographs etc will be lost. Add to that, if as Ken suggests the disks are not fully legal, the operating system will likely refuse to work anyway. However if you wish to give it a try we can go ahead. But in all seriousness I recommend you take it back to whoever built it if possible, or if not, to someone who is fully recognised as a reputable technician, as I do doubt that we can do much more with this being on a remote basis. RandyL Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I have to agree with KenB and Plastic Nev. the first one: it's a compaq CD written on it compaq color monitor series 5500,7500,7550,9500 But you said you had a LG monitor.   the second: COMPAQ operating system CD W98 SE. Arabic Enabled Only use with compaq restore CD only for distribution with a compaq pc the third: COMPAQ restore CD Compaq Desktop, iPaq, and workstation series. version 1.6 requires the compaq operating system CD version 1.6 requires the compaq operating system CD Your computer was built not bought. If this computer is not an off the shelf name brand computer (Compaq) then these disks are worthless. Further the OS is suspect if it was supplied with these disks. Yes there are ways to cheat but fraught with problems. If this computer was made then it should have a full retail installation disks not a branded set like Compaq restore CD's. They aren't even XP. 98 Compaq Restore CD's can be bought for pennies. It sounds like Ken and Nev said. I think whoever installed Windows did so illegally. No volume license here. Your disks are either a ruse or a hacker supplied set. If the above assumptions are true then your options are to buy an OS that is legal and fully supported. Not hacked. After that take up the issue with the vendor and raise the legal issues with them. There is also the matter of validation which can also be hacked temporarily. Any OS from XP on needs activated. Not exactly sure what you have?  I could go on and on but the point is if we are correct you need to fully reinstall with a retail set of disks not Compaq disks since your computer is not Compaq. Armageddon Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 I have to agree with everyone here the system sounds very suspect , yes there are hacks round validation but as soon as microsoft updates the genuine validation tool the hacked OS will stop working, I thinks it's either a new genuine OS or a copy of linux so at least emy can use the computer Quote Google is your friend  We are all members helping other members. emy Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 (edited) Hi all :D OK, first thank you all for these great posts and this communication. I searched and at last I recognized that the compaq CDs is for the older pc, and all the CDs I got with the pc I am talking about is the motherboard CD about the windows.. I'm sure it's XP but I don't know which XP exactly, before.. I asked someone who fixed this pc and he told me that he didn't know !! The restoration... I opened start menu.. then all prog. .. I think system tools or something like that then system restore.. I don't remember but I think you will understand me :) I'm trying to know the type of processor and which XP I have.. but I call him and he doesn't answer.. maybe he is a little busy but I'll call him later.. if you can tell me what to do to know just telll me with details... and I'll try it abt what kenB said.. I did it alot of times but there is nothing the CPU was made for me but who gave it to me didn't gave me any CDs !! that was long ago and I was too young.. thank you all for trying to help and I'm waitig for all your new solutions Emy Edited March 7, 2010 by emy Quote
danzil Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Hi if you ran system restore then it would not be win98, (that never had system restore, only ME and above). do you have an XP cd, or can you ask a friend to lend you one.(not for a re-install, not illegal because you would be using it to check your OS). try booting from it, go to recovery console (press R when prompted), then type in chkdsk /f /r this will check your hard drive for errors. this wayw e can rule that out. Also as formentioned, have you tried tapping F8 when the computer boots up, you will get a list of options like "safe mode", "safe mdoe with networking" etc DO YOU SEE THIS SCREEN. when your computer first boots up, can you see anything at all (POST, power on self test, this is where it tells you your spec, counts up ram etc). have you tried getting into the BIOS, tap F2 maybe F10 and 2 others are ESC and DELETE (not back space).  give them a try and post back... regards danzil Quote Windows 10 Pro x64Aqua Jeantech Gaming case550watt psu.MSI Gaming Board32GB DDR3 Corsair gaming RamGenuine Intel i7 3.2Ghz4 x 24x dvdrw 150GB SSD750GB Hybrid Drive256 RAID PCI/E SSD for OSand loads of other bits i really dont need :D
