Guest Flando Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 How many inbound connections are possible on a windows 2003 server based system? Is there a limit? Thanks
Guest Chris White Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 RE: Incoming connections windows 2003 Windows 2003 Web Server - 10 Connection Limit I know. But for some reason i have the figure "1000" in my head for maximum connections to Windows 2003 Server. Obviously connection limits are hardware dependant and some servers will suffer performance degredation way before the limit is reached. Thats where good network architecture is very important. I wouldn't allow any server to load up excessivly. With todays Server O.S. capability there isn't any need to let that happen IMO. -- Chris White United Kingdom "Flando" wrote: > How many inbound connections are possible on a windows 2003 server based > system? Guest Flando Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 RE: Incoming connections windows 2003 Ok Chris, but is there any Microsoft Best Practice for the maximum concurrent connections to a single file server shared folders? Thanks Fabio "Chris White" wrote: > Windows 2003 Web Server - 10 Connection Limit I know. > > But for some reason i have the figure "1000" in my head for maximum > connections to Windows 2003 Server. > > Obviously connection limits are hardware dependant and some servers will > suffer performance degredation way before the limit is reached. > > Thats where good network architecture is very important. Guest Chris White Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 RE: Incoming connections windows 2003 Hi Flando, This subject is too variable to have a Best Practice really. Its very hard to find anything related to this topic on the web unless you know where to dig. Unfortunatly there is no sign of treasure where i've been digging. Anyway, in terms of reality and using a bit of common sense I would keep connection limits down to about 500/600 Users dependant on your network structure, other bandwidth use (DFSR, Backups, etc.) and server hardware. Obviously with all these variables it would be hard for Microsoft to say "This is the max amount of users per share" etc. Remember that Microsoft state the backlog for a LAN card is 200 Connections. So ensure you have enough LAN cards to support this also. I integrated LAN teaming into my file servers due to heavy use. -- Chris White United Kingdom "Flando" wrote: > Ok Chris, but is there any Microsoft Best Practice for the maximum concurrent > connections to a single file server shared folders? > > Thanks > Fabio > > "Chris White" wrote: > > > Windows 2003 Web Server - 10 Connection Limit I know. > > > > But for some reason i have the figure "1000" in my head for maximum > > connections to Windows 2003 Server. > > > > Obviously connection limits are hardware dependant and some servers will > > suffer performance degredation way before the limit is reached. > > > > Thats where good network architecture is very important. Guest Flando Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 RE: Incoming connections windows 2003 I found what I'm looking for. Thanks anyway. Bye Fabio Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 Deployment Kit Planning Server Deployments Chapter 2 Designing and Deploying File Servers (pag 142) Remote concurrent file handles A file server running Windows Server 2003 with 1 GB of RAM can efficiently support approximately 100,000 remote concurrent file handles, regardless of the size of the files. If your users are likely to have more than 100,000 files open at a time, plan to split this load across two or more servers.
