Re: Installing TS After The Fact...

So for the applications that you don't re-install after the TS installation,

they will only function properly for one user? What will prevent those

applications from opening and being used by multiple users?

Also, does the same problem occur in the reverse scenario? In other words,

if I were to uninstall TS after installing several other applications, will

those programs need to be re-installed?

Re: Installing TS After The Fact...

Exactly what will happen depends on the application.

When you install applications on a TS, the server must be put into

install mode before the installation. Install mode caches all

changes to the registry during the installation and copies them to

the shadow area of the registry. When users log on to the TS, they

all get their personal copy of the registry entries made by the

application in their HKCU part of the registry (i.e. their

profile). In that way, they all have their personal settings,

independent of each other.

Failing to put the server into install mode can lead to all kinds

of problem, but it's impossible to say exactly which (if any).

And yes, the reverse scenario can also lead to problems.
