Belkin wireless problems

Hey thanks for looking at this post. ill get to the point.

 

Basically i baught a Belkin wireless USB adapter 6 months ago, intending to use it on the new router i baught yesterday. the adapter is a belkin f5d8053 n wireless adapter. The router i have is an N+ router. Basically my problem is i can connect to the interner fine, and so can my brother on his built in wireless in his laptop. only problem is, between every 10 - 30 minutes my connection will just drop for a good 5-6 seconds and then reconnect, which as you can imagine is really annoying, it disconnects my from msn, skype calls and even games. my brother however, is fine and i assume its my wireless adapter. I googled my problem and seems alot of people have the same problem with this model.

 

My signal strength is always top bar and maybe 1 bar off top every now and again.

Its version 3011ed - ive gone on the belkin site and downloaded the most up to date version 3 drive, still the same issue, i went into device manager, made sure the "let your pc turn off this device to save power". I've also sent various mails off to belkin, of which they replied with uninstall the drivers, then reinstall and restart, which i have done several times and my problem still persists.

Ok how close if the laptop to the wireless router?

 

Being to close can drop a connection try going upstairs.

 

Mobile phones and cordless house phones and other wirless devices can interfere with the connection.

Couple of things to try, first is to make sure you only install the drivers, not the Belkin wireless client software. You may already have done that that, but if not uninstall the adapter and let Vista also remove the driver. Remove the adapter, reboot.

 

Put the CD in the drive and cancel setup. Plug in the adapter, tell it find the driver automatically, when done reconnect and see how it goes.

 

The other thing to do is to log in to the router and change the wireless channel selection from Auto to manual, then choose a channel.

 

One other thing that occurred to me is the number of USB devices you have connected on the same hub - it could be that there is a current spike once in a while which resets all the devices. Try unplugging all USB devices except your adapter and see how it goes.
