I have a problem, my Ipod will not synchronise with my Dell 9150 Dimension XP computer, I have contacted Apple but no luck, they did their tests, even sending my Ipod to their technical department and found nothing, they seem to think that the problem is inside my XP computer.

As a novice in the computer world I feel that Dell & Microsoft are very expensive with their costs, that is why I am hoping that somebody in the computer fraternity can assist me in rectifying this problem.

I have attempted with another Ipod, but the same occurs.

At certain times a message appears on my screen, Radeon X600 256MB hyper memory secondry has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify it's compatibility with Windows XP, could this be the cause of my problem ?

Could it be that my Graphics Card be on the blink ?

Hope that somebody can assist me to rectify my problem.

Awaiting any Reply or Ideas, thanking you all

try a new driver for that card via the ATI website,.

also try completely uninstalling itunes, and downloading a new version (uninstall first).

give that a whirl then post back;.

Hello Urchin. Getting an iPod to be recognized in a Windows computer can be a pain at times. Please answer the below questions for a start:

  • Are you using the latest version of iTunes?
  • Have you tried plugging the iPod into any other USB port?
  • Does the iPod gets detected in any other computer?
  • Do any other USB devices such as flash drives, mouse, keyboard, etc. experience problems?
  • Is the USB dock used to connect the iPod to the computer fine? Have you got it tested?
  • Did the iPod get recognized before?

This will give us some information as to the cause of the problem. Please post the required information as soon as possible. :)

Oh, and a request. Please do not change the font size or write in all bold text to emphasize as it makes it harder to read. Thank you for your co-operation.

OK Urchin, I will post my traditional response to USB issues. Please follow through the procedure and see if it helps or not. :)

I think this might be due to a corruption in your driver files. I would suggest that you copy the files in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers from the laptop to the affected computer. When asked to replace those files, answer yes. If that is not viable, please let me know and I will upload a copy of the driver files from my own computer.

Oh, and please back up those files before going forward with those instructions. They might come in handy if something goes wrong.

Hope that helps. :)

Hi Goku, Very good info but I am only a novice, you have given me technical info which goes over my head but I will pass the info on to somebody that knows more about computers, if that is OK.

I must tell you what the Apple technical people told me this afternoon, that the Ipod Touch will not be compatitabe with my computer due to the computer being an XP with Media Centre installed, ?

I am very grateful for the suggestions you have given me, most appreciated.

Hello Urchin, I am afraid the Apple support might be right here. I did not consider your operating system in my search results and that is why I didn't figure it out myself. But don't give up hope yet. There still might be a way to tweak it to get the iPod recognized.

I will keep searching for sometime in case I stumble upon something useful. :)
