Guest dan Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I have just installed Windows Server 2008 Standard RC1, which I received as a DVD from my Action Pack subscription, but I don't appear to have the Hyper V role available to me when I go to add a role in Server Manager. Any ideas why this might be the case? thanks.

I can't find any reference to 64 bit, so I guess it must be the 32 bit version. It could have been spelled out a little clearer. I can see that when you down load the trial version it clearly shows which is 64 bit versus 32. Thanks again- I guess I'll go downloading.....
Guest Bill Grant Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Re: Hyper v role not available Don't settle for an RC version, get the 64-bit RTM for the latest version of Hyper-V. Be warned that there is a bug in the current version. Do not make any locale changes when you install the server, or the Hyper-V role will not be available. (You can change locale settings after you enable the hyper-v role). Also note that this version does not support the domain controller role on a system running hyper-v. Although it is the RTM version of Server 2008, it is still an early beta version of Hyper-V. Hyper-V is scheduled for release up to 180 days after server 2008 RTM. Anytime. Get the download of RTM and you might need to enable your Servers BIOS settings as described in the docs. April Action Pack should have the RTM versions, or so I heard. -- /kj
