Heather7000 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 When I type in my password on the Windows Vista login screen I get the error message: "Your Profile Is Not Recognised" There is an important file that I need from this profile. Is there any way of getting it back? Thanks Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Hello there. Could you restart the machine and repeatedly tap F8 and choose either last known good config or safe mode. Do either of these work? Is the account your trying to logon onto full admin account as in main account? Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Heather7000 Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 Thanks, I will try that tonight when I get home. However, I don't get any screen before the log in screen (i.e. no boot screen, etc.). This account is the only one on the computer so I think it is the administrator account. Quote
Tootech Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 it is the administrator account. It won't be in Vista, it may be an administrative account, but it won't be THE admin account. Quote
Heather7000 Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 I managed to get into safe mode using F8 but still couldn't access any documents. However, I was able to do system restore and that worked :D:D. Thank you for all your help :) Quote
RandyL Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Great work Heather, Jelly Bean and Tootech. Sometimes a profile can be corrupted. One way to help protect data loss in such an event is to have a second Administrator account set up or as Tootech said set up THE Administrator account or Super Administrator account in Vista. That way you can log in and move your data after restoring your profile. I set one up on my Vista exactly as this article explains.
