My computer turns itself on

I am having a problem with my computer turning itself on overnight. I have

tried disabling MS update, but it did not fix it. I read a note in the MS

news link that stated to check the BIOS for LAN-on setting. I cant find the

BIOS anywhere, even with a serch. I have a Windows XP operating system but I

just bought this computer a few weeks ago (used) and I am not sure what may

be in it? Any ideas?

When you boot up the computer, you will see Set Up and either Del or F2

and this will get you into the BIOS.

When you get there, look for "Wake up on LAN" or something similar.

Disable it, save your settings and boot up.

Turn your mouse upside down if moving the mouse normally will wake it up.

First, did you check and navigate through the treasure you bought (used

Computer having somebody else stuff???), make sure you have an Up2date

Anti--virus with Firewall and Anti-malware programs and run a thorough scan

on this machine.

If you got XP CD installation media best if you wiped out the Hard drive

clean and install from scratch the OS.

Check that the previous owner didn't have nightmare ;) and schedule Task the

machine to wake up early to updates itself and scan, for Him/Her to find IT

ready to use without waiting for the normal updates which can be a cumbersome

if you want to achieve some work on the machine or check e-mails..etc.

On Start Up Directly Press F2 constantly until you Get the Machine BIOS and

try to change the Settings there, read the Documents came with it if any on

how to change and access the BIOS.

HTH.

Guess an important part of the question is what you consider "off". If

standby or hibernate, bets are off in locating the bios.

My vote in this primary was for the lesser

of many evils...
