A problem

hi folks I have a friend with a problem her laptop won't boot even in safe mode she has a lot of course work on this pc I have had her burn OTL and run the initial scan when she has the logs I will post them here for inspection

Dave, maybe its worth running a disk health check, especially if there were no signs of infections before it stopped booting. Something like bootable Seatools.

 

Then get the data off it using a USB stick and a bootable PE or Knoppix.

 

My thinking is that if its a disk that is playing up, you may not find out until its too late and the priority could be to get the data off it, then sort it out.

Good idea since shes using the otl disk i will ask her to retrieve what she needs then continue with what I hope will be the solution

ok otl and lots of other stuff wont work am having her scan the drive using seatools

Hi Dave, any chance of pulling the drive out and connecting it to another machine, then scan the drive with everything you can lay your hands on from the good machine?

You may even be able to get OTL into it that way too.

Thtas what I'd like to do Nev but sinced it's laptop and she has scores of coursework on it I don't think she will even contamplate it

Try and save data time. PE or Knoppix as Tootech said or connect the laptop drive to a desktop with a converter. That's what I do.

Am going to get the lady to downlaod knoppix live cd and use that since it puts a drive icon on the desktop to get her data off then it looks like a new drive i think

Yeah, it does put a drive icon on the Desktop, you'll probably need to make the USB stick writeable as Knoppix puts all drives in read only mode automatically.

ok drive removed data recovered drive sectors repaired drive then drive wiped and os reinstalled this was one I had to visit in person lol

Personally I wouldn't trust a drive that has thrown a wobbler, but if it works ok, jobs a good un !!
