I have excite.com as my start up page. When ever I click on a news item, it

comes on the then as quickly the same pop up appears. Cannot delete without

going out of Internet Exployer altogether. Any clues as what to do to prevent.

Thanks

You left out the very important information about what popup pops up!

Excite.com is notorious for being ad and popup-laden so it is no surprise

that something on their site is getting through. However, without knowing

what the popup is I can't guess whether this is just Excite.com's normally

invasive behavior or your computer is infected.

In the meantime, install the Firefox browser - which also has a popup

blocker - and see if the same problem occurs. If it doesn't and you still

want to use Excite.com (obviously not recommended by me), then use Firefox

instead of IE.

The popup is http://www.yourtopbrands.com/9qw2E61dd8615?sud=11286. It always

is an advertisement for Footlocker. Really discussing. If not for the ability

to store upcoming dates of importance in Reminders, I would drop excite.

It doesn't sound like your computer is infected. This is just Excite.com's

normal ugly behavior.

You can get the same functionality with My Google (or whatever they call it)

as your homepage without all the ads. My Yahoo also provides that

functionality but it does have quite a few ads. Your ISP may even have a

tailored homepage that does what you want, albeit probably not without ads.

I know that my ISP (Comcast) does.

You can spend the time doing a bit of exploring instead of just passively

using Excite.com. or try Firefox as I previously suggested. In addition to

its built-in popup blocker, there are tons of extensions created for

Firefox to manage what scripts and ads run. Get Firefox from

http://www.mozilla.com.

Or try another homepage instead of Excite.
