Display Stretched Wide Right

Hello again,

Computer Info:

LG L1933TR Monitor

NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 256MB AGP

Soyo Dragon KT880 v2

AMD XP2900 2.0G

WinXP Home SP2

Background info:

No recent changes to the system.

This computer runs 24/7 restarting only for occasional access to other

operating systems.

The issue:

Went to bed with the display working fine... woke up 5.5 hours later to find

the display stretched far to the right. The height of the window is correct

and fits monitor perfectly... it's just waaaayyyy wide.

The windows in other operating systems on other partitions (including a

Windows 98SE installation) are still correct, so it's limited to my XP Home

partition

and therefore not likely to be a monitor issue, IMO. All applications

display this way

and if I do the Restore Down and drag to size then Shift Close they will

open correctly but go way off to the right again upon Restore to full

screen. Subsequent windows (like new message windows in OE) open wide, too.

What I've tried *after* issue appeared:

Did a Restore Point to Friday and then the Friday before, no joy.

I tried bringing up Properties from the desktop and checked to see that

display

is set at 1280X1024. Can't find any other setting that looks good, either.

Checked to see that monitor driver is current and is according to MS

(1.3.0.0)

Updated NVIDIA driver from MS (5.6.7.3).

Uninstalled Video Adapter and let XP reinstall. Reset settings.

Re: Display Stretched Wide Right

Should be buttons on the monitor to set the width.

Re: Display Stretched Wide Right

Thanks for replying.

If this only happens in my XP partition and does not happen to the Operating

Systems elsewhere in the multi-boot, then wouldn't that remove the monitor

from the equation?

i.e... If I were to resize the monitor to fit the XP boot then, would it not

change size in the other operating systems as well?

I guess I could try it, as I've seen strange things over the years... it

just doesn't seem to follow for me.

Thanks again.

Fixed it:

Seems the clock setting changed from 50 to 98. Resetting fixed it.

New Question:

How does a clock setting up and change in the middle of the night? I ran a

virus scan and found nothing of special interest. Hmmmmmmm...
