windows workgroups

Hi all,

 

i've been experiencing the following problem and i'd appreciate if

someone could bail me out of this. i have 2 computers running windows

xp pro sp 2. they're both on the same workgroup and on a dhcp network,

whereby they are assigned the addresses 10.196.130.63 and

10.196.130.75 respectively. problem is that one machine

(10.196.130.75) which is a desktop pc can browse and even ping the

other, which is a laptop. however, the laptop cannot access the other

machine or even ping it. in addition, both machines can access the

internet and they're both connected to the same cisco switch (3548).

i've tried everything, including going through the network setup

wizard on both machines repeatedly, sharing folders, using

administrator's account on both computers but none of these have

worked. i've also tried to restart the catalyst switch the computers

are connected to but to no avail. kindly if there's anyone who has an

idea of solving this problem please inform because its stressing me

alot inspite of it looking so simple.

Try to stop any firewall enabled ont he Laptop.

Check also the anti-virus system since Internet worm modules may

behave just like a firewall.
