Guest Hutch Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Recently moved from an older server, to a new file server with larger capacity. At issue however is the GPO's that had been setup to look after program installs (MS Office, etc). These GPO's were setup to point to ServerA. We have moved the install points to ServerB. I had thought that the simplest thing to do was: In DNS - Create A record for ServerB Then - Create CNAME alias for ServerA, pointing to ServerB. The problem is, if I update the GPO's to point to ServerB, then it will force a re-install on all our client machines (we have had this happen before). The Alias, while I can ping it properly, I cannot map to it using UNC. I get an error stating: "You were not connected because a duplicate name exists on the Network. Go to System in Control Panel to change the computer name and try again". Can't figure it out...as an Alias should work...at least I thought it would. ServerB is running Windows 2003 x64 R2 with SP2. Fully patched. Any help would be great.
