Guest Larry Scott Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Has anyone seen this behavior? I have installed WS2008 RTM with Hyper-V role and created two virtual machines (Windows XP SP2). The install goes smoothly but after cycling the server (host) I seem to loose the NICs on the virtual machines. This has happened twice, attempting to reinstall the NICs fails as the XP client cannot find the drivers and obviously can't connect to the internet to download the drivers. Any insight appreciated.
Guest Bill Grant Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Re: WS2008 Hyper-V virtual machines NIC loss Hyper-V uses synthetic adapters which use the vmbus. The drivers for these are automatically installed with the Integration Components. ICs so far only cover Server 2008 and Server 2003 with SP2. For XP you will need to use legacy adapters (as used by VPC/Virtual Server). XP should have a driver for those.
