Can't logon - Help needed with ntpasswd

Recommended Posts

Hi,

In a previous thread I explained how I had stupidly taken my laptop

off the work domain, and joined the workgroup. Unfortunately nobody

(including myself) knows what the local administrator password is for

the laptop, and now I can't logon.

It was recommended that I use some software called ntpasswd to boot

from CD and reset the password. I have created a bootable CD from the

website, but my laptop won't boot from it. I know that it is reading

the CD, and it will boot from an XP disk if I put that in, but not the

bootable ntpasswd disk. Can anybody explain why this might be? Anybody

familiar with ntpasswd?

Thanks for any help

Colin

Try this site - it's probably the one used most often in

such cases. When you're back in operation, remind your

new sysadmin that it's a good idea to create two local

admin accounts on each machine and to lock their

passwords away. It will save him a lot of trouble.

There are two reasons why your computer might not boot from the NTpasswd CD

you created:

1. You didn't burn the .iso properly. You need to burn the file you download

as an image, not as a data file.

2. You don't have the boot priority set to optical drive first, hard drive

second.

Thanks, but that's the site I did use. I've created the bootable CD

from this site, but my laptop won't boot from it, even though it will

boot fron an XP CD.

Right. I guess it's reason 1. I'll try again tomorrow,

Thanks

Thanks guys. It worked. I had burnt the iso as a data file, not an

image. I'm back on line now.
