What do they get out of the deal?

* VS 2008?

* Expression line?

Developers are small compared to the overall public, surely this is small potato for MS?

* Windows Server 2008?

* SQL Server?

The server line is a bit more pricey and can be used to server up those WMVs Silverlight likes so much?

* Licenses to handsets?

Right now, MS is probably making a sweetheart deal w/ Nokia to deliver Silverlight 1.0 on those handsets, but if Flash Lite can be licensed, surely, so can Silverlight 2.0?

* Protecting the desktop?

Once Macromedia makes Flex, which eventually became AIR, did MS feel threatened that the RIA space was going to be dominated by other companies? Could Silverlight be created just to contain Adobe?

MS has done it before w/ the Xbox 1 for Sony.

What do you think?
