Problems with Media Player

When I play a video on any BBC website in the BBC media player (not

IPlayer) or in Windows media player, the colours are reversed, ie.

inverse video.

I have emailed the BBC a couple of times about this and have had no

reply. The problem is only with the BBC site, videos from Youtube etc

play ok.

Graphics card drivers are the latest, downloaded and installed

yesterday, and Colour quality is set to Highest (32-bit)

The problem occurs in Firefox 2.0.0.12, Avant 11.5 and

Opera 9.26.

Can anyone help ?

TIA

Stuart

Use Windows Media Player.

What does Firefox, Avant or Opera have to do with the Microsoft XP

operating system?

The browsers have nothing to do with XP.

As I said in my email I have the problem with Windows Media Player.

The browsers are just to show that the problem is not browser related.

Since I installed Avant, which I gather is a 'front end' for IE, I am

unable to find IE on my system. Since Avant is IE based, I do not

think that I would do any better with IE. Since I never use IE I did

not think that it was worth mentioning it.

Avant is NOT a front end for IE. It is a stand-alone browser.

You need to find IE on your system.

It's in Program Files | Internet Explorer: iexplore.exe

Right click it and create an icon that you can put on the desktop

If it works in IE, then it's a 3rd-party browser problem.

Program Files - Internet explorer contains :

Folders

Connection Wizard

en-US - files hmmapi.dll.mui, iedw.exe.mui, iexplore.exe.mui

MUI - folder 0409 - file mscorier.dll

PLUGINS

SIGNUP - install.ins

Files

custsat.dll

hmmapi.dll

iedw.exe

iporoxy.dll

As I said, I have no IE, iexplore.exe seems to have disappeared.

As I said, I never use IE so I did not know it had gone.

Any idea what CAB file it is in on the XP CD ?

Nope.

If you don't have it installed, then that's probably why it's not

working anywhere in your browsers.

Just a WAG (Wild-Assed-Guess)... see if you can download IE7:

Senior Moment. Brain Cramp. Call it what you will... IE has nothing

to do with your other browser problems.

Still, you should try to get it established on your system just for

comparison purposes

Senior moment ? I thought I had cornered the market in those :-)

I tried to install IE7, downloaded and ran IE7-WindowsXP-x86-enu,exe.

The installation said it was done but could not download updates and

to run Tools after starting IE7. Unfortunately, however, I still do

not have iexplore.exe on my system. Somehow IE is refusing to install.

This seems extremely strange to me.

I have found iexplore.exe. It was in Program Files\Internet Explorer

but the attributes were set to hidden. I went into a command prompt

and did the usual attr -s -h iexplore.exe and lo and behold I now have

Internet Explorer 7. How the hell it got set to hidden and system I

dont know. Possibly should be system ?

Embedded videos still in inverse video in IE7 though.

It's time for you to take this to:

microsoft.public.windowsmedia.player
