How much of your Dev time is battling the system?

Our projects are large(ish) WinForms projects that currently have up to 29 separate projects within the main solution file.

 

I seem to spend an awful lot of time battling with VS2005 crashes (white screen of death in particular) and freezes (one project always freezes for about 5 minutes whenever you first open a form designer and I haven't been able to track down the cause).

 

I also spend a lot of time battling the design (or rather the non-design) of the code itself (very high coupling).

 

 

I probably spend about 30-50% of my dev-time either re-booting VS or trying to reverse-engineer obscure pieces of code and actually fairly little time just banging out code at a good rate.

 

 

We are doing something to try and improve the code design, but it's a slow process.

 

How bad\good do other people here have it?
