Just a quick question about remote desktop.

 

I am setting up some machines for remote desktop use and they are appearing

in the list in remote web workplace. I am also able to succesfully connect to

the machines. So far so good.

 

When I am connected using a login 'user1' I can work on the machine without

a problem. However, if another user tries and connects to the machine as well

while user 1 is still connected user2 get a warning saying that user1 is

still connected do I wish to log them off and any unsaved work will be lost.

 

This is fine, however I was wondering if there was a switch or a setting

somewhere where I can set it so that it is impossible for another user to log

into the machine if someone is already logged on.

 

So if user1 is logged on, user2 gets a 'cannot log on, machine in use' kinda

message?

 

I want to eliminate the possibility that someone could log someone off the

network causing loss of work.

 

Do you know if this can be done?

Hi - since you're not using Terminal Services, you should post in

microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs. That's the SBS2003 group, and RWW is

part of SBS. I'm setting up my reply to crosspost there, but in the future,

note that this group here is for Windows Terminal Services, not RD on

WinXP,etc.

Your users shouldn't have admin rights on the workstations and then they

won't be able to kick anyone else off.

 

Additionally, if you have a setup where user1 always uses machine1, you can

ensure that only user1 is in the "Remote Desktop Users" group on machine1. I

don't tend to do that. I usually let any user log into any machine (if

they're fairly identical in build) just in case there's an

emergency/whatnot.

If the uer doesn't have admin rights, they will get a message similar to

this, yes.
