Hi, I tried to do a System Restore yesterday, and when I did it went through all the steps like normal, but after it restarted, it completely stopped working on the page that tells me to press esc to change boot order and press f10 to enter setup so I turned it off. When I turned it back on this morning, it did the same thing, and every time I've tried it still does it. I don't think it freezes, I just think it stops working. If I'm quick enough, I can get it to try to go into the boot order thing or setup, but it still just stops working.

Hi Skrubz.

I think you mean you tried to restore to factory settings which is like reinstalling Windows. System Restore sets your computer back to the settings that were trouble free from a date you picked. Is that correct?

What is the make, model and number of your PC?

Do you have your original Windows disks or Recovery disks?

I'm unclear if you can actually get into "set up" or the "bios" and if you can navagate in that by the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Answers to these questions will help others help you. Good luck.

No, I mean a System Restore.

It's an HP Pavillion dv6000. It's a laptop.

It didn't come with them, so no.

I can't get into them. If I hit the button before it freezes, it will say "please wait" but it freezes before I can get into either of them.

I see a lot of 6000 series. Product search results

With most HP computers it's F! or F2 to enter setup.

The thing is that we need exact information in order to help you. What does "hit the button mean"? Where and when is that that?

The possibilities are endless without exact informatioin.

It could be hard drive, mobo, memory, corruption of Windows etc.

Persnally I suspect corruption, malware or more likely a failing hard drive. In cases of laptops the hard drive life is at best 5 years under normal use.

But then there is also the matter of why you needed to restore.

Please provide as much information as you can think of.

Weird.. I turned it on so I could take a picture of the screen it froze on to show you, and it's working now. I'm not sure at all what happened or why, but it seems to be working fine.

Thank you though, for trying to help :)

I think that the System Restore might be going back to an infinite loop, which keeps going round and round. This might be because of the loss of some important files in addition to the changes that has been endowed to the system. If you are really having some problems with the computer then I would recommend you to make a back up of your data and then try formatting the computer.

RE

Try to turn off System Restore and then reboot your computer before turning it back on. Hopefully,it will solve your problem.
