PANASONIC PLASMA TV HELP?

Hi,

I recently purchased a 42" Plasma Panasonic TX-42S10 Viera. It comes with a HC SD card slot built in. According to the instruction manual, it accepts & plays pictures & Movies. The movies should be in MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 format. But I have tried this, & the TV has a message saying: Invalid movie format. It displays pictures without any issues.

 

 

I've tried AVI & DVD format but still no joy. I'm guessing that Panasonic Camcorders have SD slots & the idea is you remove the SD card from Camcorder to TV without the use of leads. I wanted to watch movies that I've got on my PC using the SD card.

 

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Hi, sorry, I have only just seen this. I have one of the Panasonic SD card video camera's and the file type is indeed MPEG format. If the file type isn't MPEG then as it states the TV will not play it.

There is an extremely good and free video converter available called AVC "Any Video Converter" available from here-

 

Free Video Converter - Any Video Converter Free Version - convert video to any formats, avi to MPEG, avi to MP4, flv to MPG

 

Install that program, then use it to convert your video to the MPEG 1 or 2 format then transfer it back to the SD card, everything should work OK then.

Please be aware the converting process will take some time, in the case of a long video it could take several hours.

Thanks Nev, I'll give it ago. I have read on another site, that I have to format the card before it will work on the TV, using a program that you download from Panasonic - but i cant find it. Also on that site, there was a lot of confusing & conflicting information.

This program is great! - I think it works faster that Winavi, however, it did not resolve my issue, I have now tried most mpeg-1 & mpeg-2 formats but still no joy.??

Hi again, that is strange, however, plug the card into your computer, click on and open My computer, the card should show as removable disk, (F:) or possibly "G" or other letter, right click on it and choose properties, the file type should be FAT I hope, not NTFS or FAT32, if it isn't ordinary FAT you may have to reformat to that file type. Otherwise I will see what Panasonic say myself, if that is no good.

The card is FAT file, & formatted using Panasonic's program & converted file to MPEG-1 & MPEG-2 formats & still wont read the card. So I think I'll contact Panasonic.

I can find little myself other than that which we have tried, so I suspect the card reader may be not functioning. Considering it is a nearly new TV, I would get it sorted by them as it will still be under warranty any way.

Here is my (late( reply from Panasonic:

 

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your TV, However unfortunately what you are trying to do is not possible through the SD card slot, it will only play back MPEG2 PS files from a Panasonic SD Camcorder.

 

Obviously they would tell me something like this, as they would not want to be seen encouraging transferring/coping of movies ETC but there must be software to convert to this? time to Google Panasonic answer I think!

I think I mentioned earlier that I have a Panasonic SD camcorder. It does take ordinary pictures as well as video. I can confirm the pictures are in ordinary jpeg format so obviously no problem then with pictures as you said earlier. However, the video files do have some strange extensions on them, and to be quite honest I cannot get good quality video without using the Panasonic Motion Studio software that came with the camcorder. I doubt that there will be any software available that can add those extensions so that your card reader will work on them.

I don't see anything mentioned in that video converter I gave you the link for either, which is a pity as it is such a great little converter program.
