TunicaJones Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Hell all I am so glad that I found this thread and I hope that someone can help me. I had to replace the motherboard on my wifes laptop and now I am having the same issue that was discussed above. I know that it is a bios issue and more than likely the clock speed is set incorrectly. The problem I am facing is that I cant change the setting for the clock speed by anyway that I would be able to on a desktop. Where I would normally be able to change the speed, it says that none of the options on the screen are changable. I have tried to reset the bios to default but there in lies the problem, because the motherboard is new.My wife is a PhD student and she has some information that she has got to have ASAP. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I contacted Dell and I was told that it was a problem with the OS and that I would have to reformat. I told him the situation and that I was positive that it was a bios issue but they wouldnt listen. So you guys are my last hope, if you need any information about my situation please let me know and I will get it to you. I will be monitoring this thread so I will be able to get back to you soon. Thank you all in advance and I look forward to hearing what you all have to say.:D Quote
Jelly Bean Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Hello and welcome. Dell is sort of correct. You fitted a new mainboard you will have to try a repair install if that dont work then you will have to reformat the laptop I am afraid to say. Quote Rwy'n ceisio fy ngorau......................
Match Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Hi Tunicajones First off can I ask what you are using to monitor what the CPU clock speed is? Second on many laptops now days for power saving the CPU clock speed will drop to around 800Mhz when its not needed, IE, just after you start up and open the control panel systems menu, normally when a motherboard has this system their is no option to alter the CPU frequency in Bios. and Finally, Make its a Dell, no prize for me on that, but what model Dell is it please so I can go look see what the machine's specs and features are so I can confirm the above for you :) Quote
TunicaJones Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Thank you all for the help. Sry, that it has taken me this long to get back to everyone. The issue was the motherboard and I was finally able to convence Dell to replace it. As soon as I powered it up, everything went perfectly. I hope that if anyone has this issue and sees this post that they will understand what they need to do, because I had no idea. Thanks again to everyone that offered their help, I really appreciate it. This site is great, it can help anyone, regardless of what thier IT knowledge is. Thanks again guys. TunicaJones:D Quote
